MOVING ON, whether we like it or not

Our landlords are kicking us out of our apartment. We have spent the last six years here. It was our first apartment together. It was the apartment where I proposed and the apartment where we returned after our honeymoon.

Despite being a bit of a dumpy, old house, this place has meant a lot to us.

Our landlords have decided that they can kick us out and then charge someone else more money with the shortage of housing. So have a lot of other landlords.

While there is plenty of anger and annoyance to go around at the need to move, I want to take a deep breath and think through the positive.

  • This place also has some negative energy. Like anywhere else, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. COVID and other challenges have trapped themselves in this apartment, and the move allows us to free ourselves.
  • It is a reminder that this is not our final home. Being forced to move without warning is a reminder that we should strive to free ourselves of the rental life and find a place we can own. Easier said than done right now, but still.
  • It is a great way to recycle. You accrue a lot of things when you stay in one spot, and we have already sold and donated so much of what we own!
  • The new place has a screened-in porch. There are a lot of great amenities at our newer, quieter spot. Not all bad! We are upgrading!

Sometimes, life deals you a bad hand, and you need to figure out how to handle it with a fresh and positive perspective.
